-byes for friends and family in newtown. services were held for victoria soto and three more children, daniel barden and two more 6-year-olds, caroline previdi and charlotte bacon. the overwhelming task of burying the victims has fallen largely on the shoulders of dan hoden. in the coming days he will be burying 11 of the 26 victims who were shot and killed at sandy hook elementary. poppy harlow sat down with him today and is in new town tonight. >> the first call came in at 7:00 saturday morning. >> once the magnitude came, i said well, we've got the get things planned out so we can do what we have to do. >> the pain in his eyes concealed by his glasses. his exhaustion apparent. he runs the only funeral home in newtown. >> one girl, the funeral we had yesterday, she loved orca whales. >> 11 of the children murdered at sandy hook elementary are being remembered here. long lines outside, now a painful sight all too common in this picturesque town. >> tragedy has landed here and it's our job to take care of what has to be done. that's what we do. >> the calls with the families -- >> it's very sad. >>

the attorney general is set to head to newtown, connecticut, today after meeting with vice president joe biden at 1:00. but don't expect to see him. this is not a public event. the attorney general has scheduled to apparently meet with some of the law enforcement officials in that town and then also with some of the first responders who were the first people to enter the sandy hook elementary school and discover the carnage there that ended up being the loss of 20 children and six adults in that school and then, of course, the mother of the killer who was shot in her bed and the killer himself. the attorney general apparently is not traveling with any other senior justice officials to newtown. he will also not be attending any of the funerals or the memorials. and again, you will not be seeing the pictures of him. there's no plan for this to be anything public other than these meetings he's going to have with those law enforcement officials. but, of course, this is a day of more farewells in newtown. six, six funerals in this tiny community, six visitations also. so 12 services. these people b

. an update on the aftermath of the elementary school massacre in newtown, connecticut. herse hearses are making their way through the town today. vice president biden is meeting in the next hour with law enforcement representatives as well as cabinet members. what he's doing is leading the president's effort to come up with new proposals to reduce gun violence. also today attorney general eric holder, he is meeting with law enforcement officials and first responders in newtown. we have learned new information about the gunman's mother. friends say that nancy lanza went on vacation alone at a resort in new hampshire days before the shooting. she checked out last thursday afternoon. her son killed her and went on his murderous rampage friday morning. we've also been able to piece together details about the gunman, adam lanza's mother nan nancy. haven't heard much from the father. mary snow is taking a closer look at a strange relationship between the father and son. >> his home is less than hour away from where his son adam oepd fire in sandy hook elementary school, but a person that k

elementary school in newtown, connecticut, takes priority with me and makes this so-called fiscal cliff look like a mole hill. we are at odds are around here about money while all around us, unnecessary gods are proliferating in communities across our nation, and mental need -- mental health needs are not being met, in helping our society to crumble while we are sitting here mumbling around about whether or not we are going to hold hands and jump off a fiscal cliff, as serious as that is, and the consequences would be for a number of things. not only are we talking about america, we are talking about the world when we fail to do things we need to do. but for the moment, the issue of the day has to do with an adequate discussion on talks of the american people about just what we need to do regarding this measure. we cannot do everything, and i know that. we cannot stop evil and violence by educating everything, but in my judgment we can and we must do something. failure to do that is a helluva lot more important to me than whether the president and john boehner jump off a fiscal cliff. >> it

if there are other investments in gun manufacturers before then. the horrific school shooting in newtown connecticut is boosting sales of bullet-proof backpacks. sales of the body armor backpacks have tripled at a company in salt lake city utah according to reports. the bags are made with a kevlar type material. several other companies sell similar backpacks. the companies however are being accused of attempting to cash in on tragedy. the backpack sell for around $300. despite a disappointing earnings report -- fed ex is expecting a record holiday season. this week's earnings from fed ex revealed profits were down in the 4th quarter. superstorm sandy played a role. however -- fed ex cites "persistant weakness" in the global economy -- as the main drag on profits, which fell 11.9 percent from last year. the beacon of hope for fed ex appears to be this holiday season. the company's ceo says online shopping is providing the opportunity for a record year. lawmakers are heading into crunch time on averting the fiscal cliff. yesterday, president obama said he wants a deal done by christmas. he also accuse

for them and their parents -- my heart breaks for them and their parents and the people of newtown. i looked at the picture of little caroline previdi, one of the 6-year-old children who died. i'm sure she was a happy child, full of life's potential, just like my own little caroline who just turned 7 a few days ago. what can you say? it's unthinkable that a person would kill innocent little children with such cravenness and violence. these children's christmas presents are still under the tree. their moms and dads are still looking at them. in this town, will we pride ourselves on rhetorical flourish , precision of thought and volume of words, what can you say? what can you do? other than stand in solidarity, in spirit with the grieving families and perhaps, just perhaps hug those that you love a little bit tighter. now, madam speaker, the sandy hook elementary school tragedy is sparking a national debate about how and why this happened and how it might have been prevented. that debate is understandable and needs to happen. in the coming weeks, congress will be called on to react. que
